Long Ride

29 05 2008

Saul, Bo, and myself went for our first bike ride of the year. It was a pretty long ride considering it was our first. The route that we took was the one that Bo would take everyday if he rode to work. It was pretty windy outside and the ride back was pretty tough. It was all along city streets and was relatively flat. A good ride nonetheless.

Not Enough

29 05 2008

Today I bought a wireless speedometer for my MTB.  I programed it and put it all together.  After I got it all hooked up I took my bike out for a little spin.  At first it was working just fine, then when I accelerated and picked up speed it wouldn’t have an output.  This was pretty discouraging because I was really looking forward to getting an accurate reading and being able to log it.  I’m going to ride to a local bike shop to see if they know that is going wrong.  I do plan on riding later on tonight with a couple of friends.

Curtis Park Run

28 05 2008

So like I said earlier, I went out and bought myself a new MTB.  The funny thing is that my friend came over so we could go riding.  He had a bike that he borrowed from a mutual friend of ours, and no lie, about 30 seconds into the ride the chain broke.  We then decided not to ride and then went running.  We ran 2 miles but broke it into two runs.  The first mile we ran it in 10:21. The second mile we ran it in 9 min.  We decided to push the pace a little considering that we took a break.

Sense of Relief

28 05 2008

So today I took a Polygraph test, and let me tell you it was pretty stressful.  I think everything went well though.  So to treat myself I decided to go out and buy myself a new MTB.  That was the first thing I did after I left the police department (that’s who I did the polygraph for).  So I bought an 08 Specialized Hardrock Comp.  I am looking forward to riding it, but I have to wait until my friend gets here so we can leave (Everyone knows time stands still when you get a new toy and cant play with it).  I plan on logging tons of miles on my new bike and I hope I have some great stories I can share with all of you.  Oh, and Nick, look out cause I’m going to catch up to you. HaHa.

P.S. (The polygraph is for a job not because I’m a suspect. For all of you with bad thoughts.) HaHa

Lifted Weights

27 05 2008

Today was the first time I have been in a gym in over two months.  I lifted with Saul and we did chest and shoulders.  It was pretty tough but I was able to get through it. I know if I stick with it ill see gains relatively quickly.  The only thing that I’m going to have to focus on is endurance training and not so much size and mass building.  I don’t think being big and bulky will help me become a better endurance athlete.  This will be hard for me to do considering I’ve played football for the better part of a decade and that’s all I’ve ever lifted for.  I now my goals are going to have to change, and as of now I’m OK with that.

Cool Down Walk

26 05 2008

After our run today we decided to walk an additional half mile.  It was so nice outside that we didn’t want to just jump back in the car and drive off.  It was about 70 degrees with a breeze.  You can’t ask for anything better.

Run around Curtis Park

26 05 2008

Michelle and I ran around Curtis Park this evening. I felt really good in my new running shoes. I started to get a little blister on the edge of my foot. I think it was because I didn’t tie my shoes tight enough. My legs did not bother me at all. Usually my lower legs get really tired and those are the first things to fatigue. Fleet Feet really knows what they are talking about. Thanks.

Michelle and I walked along the river this afternoon.  It was very nice outside.  We did some recon for future bike riding.  We figured the trail will take us all the way to Downtown. We plan on biking to Downtown and having lunch, then biking back.
