Run - 0.3 hours - 01/06/2009

6 01 2009

Who goes from couch to mile and half on there first run? I know that it is not my best time, but for my first run in awhile I’m pleased.  I’m more pleased that I was able to complete this distance more than anything else.

Physical Agility

30 10 2008

Today I completed my physical agility test for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. I can honestly say that it was a little more difficult then I anticipated.  The reason I thought it was difficult was that it was a timed event and you have to sprint the whole way.  I consider myself in decent shape, but yet it was still tough.  I was able to get through it and I thought I did really well.  The whole test is about a ¼ mile in total distance, but there are obstacles that have to be completed.  At the start of the course you have to step through two horizontal bars that are about 20in apart, and about 2 feet off the ground.  Kind of difficult if you’re a bigger fellow.  The next obstacle is a 6’ wall climb.  Then, there is a series of hurdles and another set of horizontal bars, before you get to another 6’ wall.  After you finish those set of obstacles, there is a short maze and then a wrist lock device.  After the wrist lock, you take a mandatory 30 second rest before you proceed to the dummy drag.  The dummy weighs 165lbs.  After that is all completed you have to sprint all the way back to the starting line which is about 200 yards away.  I passed with a 2 minute time, but you were given 3:30 to complete the course.  Not bad.

Run - 0.3 hours - 10/14/2008

14 10 2008

Been battling with a cold this past week or so.  I don’t feel 100% completely but I felt as though I should get out there and try.  It was a struggle to complete this run, but I seemed to improve on this route compared to the first time.  I guess it’s because I knew exactly how much I could push and still be able to finish.

Run - 0.3 hours - 10/07/2008

7 10 2008

My original plan was to go for a run later on in the evening, but I got restless and couldn’t sit still.  When I got out and started I took it slow.  After about 2 minutes I couldn’t hold back and kick it up a little.  Not my best run, but not my worst either.  I plan on running at least 2 more times this week.

Went for a short run today.  I need to focus more on my breathing, and not so much time and speed.

I’m Back

16 09 2008

So I fell of the wagon.  After a long let off, I went to for a solid run.  I was able to run nearly 2 miles my first run back, and that’s without running for over a month.  I think that’s pretty good.  I know that my blog title is No Excuses and I don’t plan on making any, but only thing I can blame is my self.  I got pretty lazy and fell into a slump.  After looking in the mirror I decided there needs to be some changes.  And trust me, men look in the mirror to.  So I got off my brand new couch, and away from my new TV, and did it.  I’m pretty proud.

Run - 0.3 hours - 07/23/2008

23 07 2008

The focus of today’s run was totally on breathing and cadence.  I’m happy with my performance.  When you look at the time it doesn’t look that good, but on the other hand when I finished the run I was totally in control of my breathing.  My new focus is going to be on endurance rather than speed.

Run - 0.2 hours - 07/22/2008

22 07 2008

First run of the weak.  I’m really getting frustrated now.  I can’t seem to get over the mile/mile 1/2 slump.  I don’t really know what I’m doing wrong, actually I do know what I’m doing wrong.  I’m always running for speed and not for distance.  Its hard to just go out and run without competing with my self.
